Construction Turnover Process

Turnover is the practical handoff from construction to operations. It should connect closeout documentation with the owner teams responsible for using and maintaining the facility.

Process steps

  1. Step 1

    Define turnover requirements

Confirm systems, spaces, documents, training, keys, attic stock, and asset data required by contract.

  2. Step 2

    Sequence by system or area

Organize turnover around phased occupancy, inspections, commissioning, and owner operations needs.

  3. Step 3

    Collect operating information

Gather O&M manuals, warranties, startup reports, test records, asset lists, and maintenance data.

  4. Step 4

    Train owner teams

Schedule training with facility managers, maintenance staff, vendors, and commissioning agents.

  5. Step 5

    Verify acceptance

Record accepted items, open issues, final locations, and owner signoff before final closeout.
